CSGB May 2018 Auction18th February 2018 by Sam Whiting
By the time you read this, the Convention will soon be upon us. Again, at least for me, the last 12 months have flown by. It must be well known by now that we no longer have a live auction at the Convention, but the lots will be available for viewing. On Saturday you can view between 2:30 and 3:30, and on Sunday between 12 and 1. As usual I will have bidding sheets with me so I can take bids at the Convention, but the auction itself will not close until Friday May the 4th, or Star Wars day as it has come to be known! Please come and view, you just might spot something you really need.
In my opinion, the star lot of this auction is a Macdonald Cricketer, lot 45. I have never seen one of these before, and judging by the catalogue value they are obviously very rare. Other highlights include Wills Cricketers 1901 and various Barratt Cricketers, a set of Colinville Football Internationals, 7 Boys Magazine Famous Footer Clubs offered as individual lots, Taddy Prominent Footballers with London Mixture backs, Clarkes Sporting Terms, Barratt Cowboy Subjects, and a section of rare early Ogden’s cards.
Please have a good look through the Auction List; there is the usual mix of sets and types, tobacco and trade. I look forward to receiving your bids.
If a member wishes to see a scan of a lot they are considering bidding on then I am only too happy to oblige. However due to the cost of printing and postage this will only be possible by email. Please email your requests to me and I will try to respond as soon as possible.
If a member requires any more information about lots, then please contact me by phone, email or post and I will do my best to assist.
We regret there will be no Cartophilic Convention this year. The decision has been made on grounds of safety and of health. It may turn out that coronavirus has been entirely defeated by October. Or it may not. A large proportion of our collecting f
We have had a request for further information off one of our frequent book buyers. What they really need to find are details of the additional documents that the handbooks refer to e.g. “AAB-XXX” for A&BC cards. They don’t know what these
