Could anyone give me some information as to the company that issued a Spanish tobacco card I just purchased. It pictures a colour photo of a nude woman. The back is printed “FUME BARCELONA Y CANADA, No. 12, Esta coleccion se compondra de 500 figuras” translate “SMOKE BARCELONA Y CANADA, No. 12, This collection will be made up of 500 figures”. I assume that BARCELONA AND CANADA are brands of cigarettes, but I can’t find any information on the issuing company. (or time frame)

Hi Leon, I have had a quick look in my reference books and can find nothing. Is there anything else printed on the card, or just what you have mentioned above. Being Spanish language could make this a South American issue of course.

Hello, Thank you for the response. The information I included in the post is all that is on the card. I checked my WTI’s and couldn’t find anything. I had thought that there might be a listing that directs you to a company, as several other brand issues do, but no luck. Hopefully, someone will see this that has a lot of knowledge about Spanish issues.

I am happy to report that I have solved the mystery. While looking through South American issues in Burdick’s ACC, I found a reference to “Barcelona” under Other Chile, N179 Figuras (pictures). Then I started looking through my 2000 WTI for any Chile firms. I found that “AVILES Hnos & Cia., Santiago, Chili” lists “FIGURAS” with the reference for “Barcelona y Canada”. The only difference is perhaps a back variation as the listing states the back is headed “Obsequio de los cigarrillos Barcelona y Canada”, whereas my card is headed “Fume Barcelona y Canada”. Back colouring of grey, numbered, and indication of 500 in series is the same.
