CSGB Nov/Dec 2016 Auction14th November 2016 by Sam Whiting
I would like to wish all members and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; I cannot believe that it is that time already!
I am getting a little low on lots to be entered into the auction, so if any member would like to enter cards in a future auction then please get in touch. If you refer to the prices realised from past auctions you will see which items generally sell and which do not.
I would also like to reiterate a couple of points. Firstly, bidders will always get the lot at the lowest possible price, allowing for other bids and the reserve set by the vendor. For example bidder A bids £100 on a lot with a £50 reserve. If no one else bids they will get the lot for £50. However, if bidder B bids £75 on the same lot then bidder A will get the lot for £80, one step above the next highest bid. In the case of 2 identical bids the first bidder will get the lot at that price. I would also like to explain that I do get quite a few similar bids on many lots, given the nature of the Society this is only to be expected. Secondly, the Society only accepts bids in multiples of £1, it is too complicated to get involved in bids of £6.50 etc. and I then have to contact the bidder to see if they wish me to round the bid up or down to the nearest pound.
As usual, the auction contains a great mixture of sets and types, both tobacco and trade. Do have a close look at what is on offer; I hope you can find something of interest. If a member wishes to see a scan of a lot they are considering bidding on then I am only happy to oblige. However due to the cost of printing and postage this will only be possible by email. Please email your requests to me and I will try to respond as soon as possible. If a member requires any more information about lots, then please contact me by phone, email or post and I will do my best to assist.
A dilemma. Imagine you are, or know a card collector who lives outside the UK, who would be really interested to join us, were it not for the high cost of the overseas subscription? If only there was a way to reduce this cost. And now there is!
have uploaded their next "Type List" at https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/tim-davidson/catalogue-id-srti10122 Please do take a look and bid sportingly. Few auctions are running, so we must reward those who are.
Although the Convention has been postponed, the auction will still go ahead with the same finish date of 1st May. Unless there are more lockdown restrictions imposed I am aiming to send lots out to winning bidders on or about 6th May. Of course the
This early American pasteboard representation, part of a set of "Holidays", is a charming way to pass on our St Patrick's Day greetings to collectors worldwide. It has endured two World Wars, and many other historical events of a worrisome nature,
